What if new members were limited to say 3 new threads a day, but could post in threads started by others as much as they want. At least then they would see how others act & they wouldn't bump all the relevant post off the front page.
That would work. at least as you said they wouldn't flood the page knocking other post off.
yeah, that sounds plausible too. with replies they would only support the posts and maybe pics of other members.
so currently we have three ideas:
1) a general post limit with for example 5 or 10 posts per day
2) a post time limit with for example 1 or 2 minutes between two posts
3) a thread limit with for example 3 own started threads per day, but unlimited chance to reply to other existing threads
the obvious problem with option (3) is the dumbasses that are the problem in the first place will just bump 30 existing threads in a row with a stupid comment just to drive up their post count in as short a time as possible
I think the dedication to being a worthy member of the community is earned by slow steady visiting and thoughtful posting, I see nothing wrong with limiting beginning forum members to 5 posts per day until they hit the 2 star level, it is a way to prove that they are in it for a while, not just hit-spam-and-run
